The British government has appointed Martin Scales as its new Deputy High Commissioner to Malawi.

He succeeds Kirk Hollingsworth who takes another diplomatic appointment in the Caribbeans, four years after service in Malawi.

“I am leaving Malawi with more than a tinge of sadness after spending four fantastic years here. I am happy to see UK Malawi relations firmly back on track given the recent past and I am proud to have played a contributory part in mending that relationship.

I will always be an advocate for Malawi,” Hollingsworth said.

Hollingsworth has been assigned to Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago where he will be taking up the position of Deputy High Commissioner.

The new Deputy High Commissioner has previously served in Afghanistan, Gibraltar, Germany and Norway.

“I am delighted to be in Malawi and been deeply touched by the warm welcome I have received. I look forward to playing a positive part in strengthening the long standing relations between the UK and the people of Malawi,” Scales said.
