Lilongwe Magistrate Court has adjourned a bail hearing for Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) Vice Chairperson Gift Trapence and Macdonald Sembereka to Friday, faceofmalawi can reveal.
Trapence and Sembereka were arrested on Tuesday in the capital Lilongwe by the Fiscal Police on fraud allegations following a complaint by UNAIDS, according to National Police Spokesperson James Kadadzera.
On Wednesday morning, the police moved the two from Lilongwe Police Station where they spent a night to Area 30 Police Headquarters.
The two appeared before Lilongwe Magistrate Court this afternoon for formal charges and bail application.
The court is expected to rule on the bail application on Friday.
The development means the two will spend two more nights in the police cell.
