Breaking news on MBC TV: The High Court in Lilongwe has granted an injunction stopping HRCC, Davie Kanyoza, James Jumbe, Chester Mwale, Andrew Kamploa and unknown persons known as Concerned Cititzens from proceeding with demonstrations which were scheduled for Wednesday July 20.

Anyone on the streets risks arrest is what I have just managed to grasp from MBC…I need to verify this injunction granted at night

LILONGWE (Malawi Democrat reports : 23:41) -Newly appointed High Court judge, Justice Chifundo Kachale on Tuesday granted an injunction restraining civil society and pro-government supports from hold demonstration in the streets.
Malawians wanted to march Wednesday to express what they said is their anger and disgust at President Mutharika’s “marauding tyranny, bad economic policies and [poor] democratic governance.”
Mr Chiza Mbekeani sought for court order to stop the demonstrations.
But Justice Kachale in his ruling delivered on Tuesday ordered that there should no demonstration by the civil society and also no counter-demonstration by the pro-government supporters.
Earlier on Tuesday, gangs of machete-wielding pro-government youths took to the streets of Malawi’s commercial capital Blantyre.
Bishop Joseph Zuza, Chairperson of the Episcopal Conference of Malawi and Bishop Joseph Bvumbwe, of the Malawi Council of Churches told reporters Tuesday July 19 in the evening that they don’t support President Bingu wa Mutharika’s public lecture or nationwide demonstrations – calling instead for dialogue among the stakeholders.

MBC TV after the first announcement then said the High Court in Lilongwe has granted an injunction stopping HRCC, its members, affiliates, Undule Mwakasangula, Reverend Macdonald Sembereka, Gift Trapence, Davie Kanyoza, James Jumbe, Chester Mwale, Andrew Kampola, unknown persons, Concerned Cititzens from proceeding with demonstrations which were scheduled for Wednesday July 20.MBC further said the order further says those disobeying will be guilty of contempt of court and maybe sent to prison, fined or get his assets ceased is what I managed to grasp as I listened.
