A Zimbabwean woman has shocked Malawi after she swindled embattled Malawi President Bingu wa Mutharika, his Malawian business partner Edwin Bhagwanji of almost half a million dollars and vanished into thin air.
The woman set up a shell oil company and after gaining access to the Malawian leader she secured an oil import licence and used his name to rent plush offices and commit engaged in various fraudulent activities before fleeing.
Malawi Police have since enlisted the help of Interpol to nab the woman according to our sources at Police Area 30 Headquarters in Lilongwe. The company called EDKOMOIL, which stands for Mutharika and Edwin was formed after Mutharika was impressed by her proposal.
Once she launched the company and once the money was available, she bolted with it leaving a list of creditors for Mutharika and his allies to sort out and the company can’t start operations, sources said.
But presidential spokesperson Hetherwick Ntaba was tight lipped when contacted for official comment expressing ignorance on the issue.
Sources disclosed that the woman, who came to Malawi some few months ago, managed through her highly placed contacts in the Mutharika government, to successfully register a ‘shell’ company which subsequently got awarded an Oil Importation Licence.
Like the biblical Delilah, the woman got access to President Mutharika through his niece Tino Nyoni.
Invoking the President’s name like a magic wand, the trickster rented offices at Mpatsa House along Chilambula Road through Estate Agents, Bwaila Properties. Nothing was paid here and the offices have since been sealed.
And to furnish her rented Area 43/2/7 house, the trickster went to Carnival Furniture and managed to get everything she wanted without even spending a Tambala.
For her frequent sojourns, the woman rented a Silver BMW on promise to buy it but she just wrecked it and parked it at Touchline Services for maintenance while she bolted.
