According to online media reports, Van Vicker, who also missed the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) last Sunday, was arrested at a Lagos airport when some guns were found in his luggage during inspection but the top Ghanaian actor has denied rumours in entertainment circles that he was arrested by the police in Lagos, Nigeria, for alleged possession of arms last weekend.

Shunned arrest allegations

Speaking exclusively to Hitz FM, Wednesday, Van said he was never arrested.

“I need to really get it clear that I was not arrested,” he said, explaining that what he did was to purchased some stage blank gun props from the US which were delivered to him in Nigeria because he was in that country at the time.

He said a few minutes after boarding a flight bound for Ghana with the gun props following due security checks at the airport, he was asked by some officers to come down and identify his bags.

He was told that there was need for State Security Service (SSS) to approve of the props. His trip was then declined by the senior officers so he had to stay for the declaration on the guns and also a cross-check to establish they were just stage guns.

He said he was in the offices of the SSS for a long time. “I was with them for a very long time and then eventually we went to the SSS offices in Ikoyi but because it was really late I had to stay with them overnight and the next day processes were made for me to leave and also certify that the guns were just props,” he said.

The loverboy actor disclosed that on going through all this process at the airport, he contacted his wife and Nollywood actress Uche Jumbo to let them know what was happening in Ghana and Nigeria, hence the ladies liaised with each other and both had a follow up on it.

According to him, “I was just in the process of leaving, I was not being kept for a crime or detained by any police, Uche came to the SSS office and we left the premises.”

Van stressed that he was never arrested or detained at the police station, adding that the process has been completed, he has his stage blank gun props with him and he is back in Ghana to prepare for his next movie shoot and other projects in Malawi.

He noted that the gun props will be used in his upcoming adventure movie so Ghanaians should watch out for his action movies very soon.

Van Vicker noted that he never planned on going for the recently held African Movie Academy Awards contrary to speculations that he could not make it to the awards due to the alleged arrest. He disclosed that he was in the middle of a shoot and could not leave the set to attend the AMAA’S. He also disclosed to Hitz Entertainment News that he will soon be leaving Ghana to Malawi to work on his next movie project.
