Prominent Malawi musician Lucius Banda is back in active politics and has since announced that he has joined the ruling People’s Party.

“Yes, I can confirm that but its not joining I have been a member of PP before even the party was registered,” said Banda.

Banda, famed for his anthem Mabala during the dawn of Malawi plural politics, has been out of politics since he resigned as personal assistant to former president Dr. Bakili Muluzi and also from the UDF party.

The musician once served as Member of Parliament but had his seat declared vacant following his conviction for forging MSCE certificate.

He was sentenced to Zomba Muximu Security Prison in 2007 but about three months into his sentence he won an appeal and was set free.

The Solder, as he is popularly known was a fierce critic of late President Bingu wa Mutharika after the musician took a leading role to impeach Mutharika in 2005 after he had quit UDF to form DPP.
