Ten ladies will express their perspectives of prettiness in a big way during the finals of Miss True African Queen slated for this month end in Lilongwe.
Before postponing the finale from April, organising chairperson Wisdom Chingwede told the press that it would be a battle of 15 big-bodied beauties–drawing five contestants from each region.
However, reigning queen and custodian of the of the big mama beauty contest Florence Banda said organisers have downsized the list because some contenders are busy with examinations and other business.
“It’s official. The final of Miss True African Queen, formerly Miss Matofotofo, will take place at Sunbird Capital on Friday, June 29. As usual, we have invited Minister of Tourism and Culture Daniel Liwimbi to be the guest of honour as the ladies showcase their beauty on the catwalk,” said Banda, who is set to handover the crown.
She disclosed that Lucius Banda and Zembani Band will headline the red-carpet event, premised on the contentious notion: Big is beautiful. Other performances include traditional dances by the contestants –shaking off myths that associate XL waists with rigidity.
Sponsors include Sunbird Hotels, Golden Peacock Hotels, Maula Pharmacy, Mercantile International, Andrews Hotels, Zodiak Broadcasting Station, Carlsberg Breweries Limited, A&E Saloon and Sunpet.
The road to the finals has been paved with the dismissal of Lilongwe queen, Banda’s namesake who was replaced by Constance Kachoka, 22, after an alleged sex scandal.
