Malawi midfielder Josephy ‘Shakira’ Kamwendo is making waves and attracting a lot of interest due to his form in national colours.
Kamwendo is on the books of MTL Wanderers at the moment, but he could be on his way back to South Africa, where he has played for Orlando Pirates as well as a loan stint with Vasco da Gama.
Malawi and former Free State Stars head coach Kinnah Phiri confirmed that a host of SA and European scouts have been to the country to watch the creative midfielder.
“We have received more enquiries about Josephy and I hope he will go before the start of the season,” Phiri told Soccer Laduma. “There are also enquiries from Europe so he is doing very well I tell you.”
The midfielder’s long range rocket was the difference as Malawi beat African champions Zambia 1-0 in an international friendly to celebrate Malawi’s Independence Day on Friday. That goal seems t have left a lasting impression on the interested parties.
