Representatives of the Media Institute for Southern Africa (Misa) Malawi Chapter have called for more players in the print media industry to serve the masses effectively.
MISA Malawi Chapter Chairperson Anthony Kasunda made the call after an observation that Malawi will now have about 45 radio and television stations with only two dailies and four weekend newspapers.
The development comes as the Malawi Communications and Regulatory Authority has awarded 15 new radio and TV station licences.
The newspapers that dominate the market are published by the Nation Publications Limited and Blantyre Newspapers Limited.
It is said other players are failing to venture into the newspaper business because of high costs of purchasing printing materials.
