Three lions from South Africa, known as Sapitwa, Chimwala and Shire, were successfully released into the wild at Majete Wildlife Reserve in Malawi on Saturday, 25 August 2012.

Lions were exterminated in Majete in the 1980s, and their return after a 30-year absence represents the final step in the ten-year programme to rehabilitate and restock this once depleted reserve and should significantly boost Majete’s attraction as a wildlife destination.
