South Africa’s new singing sensation Zahara is scheduled to fly into Malawi on Friday next week ahead of her performance at the Standard Bank’s Joy of the Jazz concert in Lilongwe
Zahara will share the stage with Malawi’s music maestro Wambali Mkandawire during the concert at the Bingu International Conference Centre in Lilongwe on September 22.
This will be after a long time that Wambali, regarded as Malawi’s finest voice, will be performing live and his sharing of the stage with Zahara promises nothing short of axiomatic for jazz lovers.
Head of Marketing, Linda Kachingwe-Sisya said that the event is part of celebrations marking the bank’s 150 years existence in Africa but in Malawi the bank has existed for 42 years.
“This year we are the biggest bank by assets and profits. As a way of celebrating the milestone we decided to celebrate with our customers through the Joy of Jazz concert,” said Kachingwe- Sisya.
She said the event will also give a platform to young up and coming artists who will perform as curtain raisers before Zahara and Mteweti Wambali Mkandawire.
“These will include Four Seasons-based jazz sensation, Malingaka and African Bible College student-band, Mingoli,” said Kachingwe-Sisya.
Meanwhile, Kachingwe says they have received an overwhelming response ahead of the show as the tickets have nearly sold out.
The ticket sales for the show are sold in selected standard Bank branches in Blantyre, Lilongwe, Zomba, and Mzuzu
