Malawi Vice President Khumbo Kachali on Monday succumbed to mounting pressure from the citizenry to apologize for the degrading remarks he made recently.

The Malawi Vice President sparked fire when he told people to shut up and stop criticizing him and President Joyce Banda for frequent international and local trips, saying “we don’t use money from your mother or father”.

A statement from the Ministry of Information indicates that the Vice President regretted making the remarks.

“Right Honourable Khumbo Kachali, Vice President of the Republic of Malawi, sincerely regrets his recent remarks on travels by the Presidency that he made in Karonga on Wednesday, 12th September, 2012.”

The two paragraphed letter concludes: “The Vice President would like to apologize for the pain and distress the remarks have caused to Malawians. The remarks are fully and unconditionally withdrawn”.

Meanwhile a debate has ensued on the social media with many asking if the apology should have been signed by Minister of Information or the Vice President should have signed it himself.
