A man was Friday morning found dead on an ESCOM transformer in Malawi’s central region of Ntcheu district, where he is suspected to have attempted to siphon oil.

Ntcheu police Officer in Charge Assistant commissioner Griffin Mpumulo confirmed the incident with the media, saying the remains could however not be identified.

He said it is suspected that the deceased had friends assisting him in the syphoning of the oil, and left him upon being electrocuted.

The Ntcheu police officer in charge warned the general public on dangers of vandalising ESCOM property.

Operations at Mikoke community hospital where the transformer is based came to a standstill on the dawn of Friday according to senior Clinician Bob Kaulere.
