President Joyce Banda has asked Malawians to be patient as she is doing everything possible to turn around the country’s ailing economy.

President Banda said the economic hardships Malawians are going through at the moment will soon be over as she believes God will intervene and bless the country abundantly.

She was speaking in Mzimba on Saturday at the official opening of the 2012 Bible Week that was organised by the Bible Society of Malawi in liaison with various churches from the district.

The President said she inherited an economy that was in a sorry state and her government is working hard to revive it.

She noted that sometimes her critics try to take advantage of her being a woman and speak a lot of things just to frustrate her.

But she said she is not moved because she realises that God is in control, considering where the country was before she took over and the successes her administration has registered in the few months she has been on the driving seat.

She commended the Bible Society of Malawi for the good work they are doing to bring the word of God to people and applauded the translation of the Bible into many ethnic languages.

Banda, who donated K500,000 to Bible Society of Malawi, called on Malawians to support the body’s work.

Earlier, Bible Society of Malawi Vice Board Chairman Ramy Zuwayo thanked the President for her interest in the affairs of the body, which was also witnessed by her gracing the occasion in Mzimba.
