Despite Malawi losing 1-0 to Ghana and being booted out of the Africa Cup of Nations, the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) raked in K18 million from the 20,000 capacity Civo stadium.
FAM Commercial manager Casper Jangale paid tribute to Lilongwe football supporters for coming in large numbers to watch the Flames.
Malawi needed to score at least 2 goals to win the match against Ghana but fell 1-0 to exit the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on a 3-0 aggregate.
FAM pre-sold the tickets for the game on two days, Thursday and Friday and refused to sell the tickets on the day despite thousands of fans waiting outside the stadium to buy the tickets.
