A former prisoner in Malawi’s northern region district of Nkhata-Bay, Mr Joseph Manda, aged 30 has committed suicide by hanging himself two months after his release from prison.

It is however not yet known what might have prompted the suicide.

Confirming of the incident, Police Spokesperson for the District Sergeant Martin Bwanali said the deceased’s body was found hanging on a tree in the early hours of Wednesday.

“He was released from Nkhata-Bay prison two months ago,” said Sergeant Bwanali.

From that time Mr Manda was reportedly to have been heavily drinking.

According to Sergeant Bwanali, Mr Manda was reportedly drunk prior to his death.

Post-mortem results conducted by the Nkhata-Bay district hospital indicate that the deceased died suffocation.

Late Manda hailed from Kamphalo village in the area of Traditional Authority Timbiri in Nkhata-Bay district.
