Officials of the Chinese and Malawi governments formally signed a US$70 million loan agreement on Tuesday for the construction of the state-of-the-art national stadium in in the capital, Lilongwe.

The signing ceremony took place at Capitol Hill in Lilongwe where the Chinese ambassador to Malawi Pan Hejun pledged his country’s continued support in infrastructure development.

The stadium of forty thousand capacity is expected to be completed within a proposed period of 12 months from now.

It is also expected to have an athletics run way, shops among other facilities.

Minister of Finance Ken Lipenga who signed the agreement on behalf of the Malawi government and Minister of Sports and Youth Development Enoch Chihana said once completed the stadium will enhance international sporting games.
