Members of the Public Appointments Committee of Parliament (PAC) have approved the appointment of Perks Ligoya as Malawi ambassador to India.

President Joyce Banda appointed Ligoya soon after she sacked him from the position of the Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM) governor.
Ligoya’s appointment comes hand in hand with the confirmation of Rezine Mzikammanda as the new Director of the country’s graft bursting institution the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), by the same PAC.

Mzikamanda’s confirmation could bring hope of donor re-instatement at the institution and the country at large which was earlier suspended following the absence of the ACB director.

The position of the ACB director fell vacant after the former boss Alex Nampota was reportedly sacked from the position soon after the ascendency of President Banda.

The PAC members met last week where among other issues made their determination on the two appointees, chairman of the committee Nick Masewo confirmed.

Masewo, however refused to give more details to the media on the matters saying the committee will formally communicate the matter to the public.

Both Ligoya and Mzikamanda were not immediately available for comment.
