Atupele Muluzi has announced his resignation as Minister of Economic Planning and Development with immediate effect.
In a press statement issued today the Machinga North East parliamentarian, cited ‘appalling’ remarks from some members of government as grounds of his resignation.
Muluzi said the comments made against him undermine the cause of one serving government in an all inclusive cabinet.
“I was thus appalled and mortified by the public comments recently uttered against me by some members of the government in a manner that lacked the courtesy, mutual respect and dignity that is expected between colleagues who strive together in pursuit of a common cause- to serve the people of Malawi selflessly and to the best of one’s abilities,” Muluzi said.
Muluzi was part of Joyce Banda’s all inclusive cabinet appointed on April 26 this year following the death of former president Bingu wa Mutharika who died of cardiac arrest.
The cabinet comprises Members of Parliament from both government and the opposition parties.
