The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) is still waiting for a file from the police to start prosecuting suspects implicated in the murder of the former Polytechnic student Robert Chasowa.

The file is expected to give a hint as to how much evidence has been unearthed against those to face the law.

This comes after the High Court in Blantyre last week granted bail to suspects who were arrested in connection with the Chasowa issue.

Some of them are Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) regional governor for the South Noel Masangwi, the DPP director of youth Lewis Ngalande, Sam Chulu and Frank Julius.

The state requested the court for more time to finalize their investigations.

Speaking to the media, the director of public prosecutions Bruno Kalemba said his office is ready to take up the case once they are served with the files.

Chitedze said; “We should be getting a police docket very soon. The inspector general of police has instituted a special team to investigate on the matter. That special team as soon as it is through it will give me the file, i will study it then i will have to come up with the names to prosecute and we will take the matter to court. What happens in a criminal investigation is that arrests are part of investigations. “

Chasowa was found in a pool of blood at the college’s campus in September, 2011.

A report of a commission of inquiry into Chasowa’s death, which was instituted by President Joyce Banda, revealed that the student was murdered putting to rest conflicting reports from the police, who indicated that he committed suicide, while an autopsy report by pathologist Charles Dzamalala indicated that he was murdered.

President Banda vowed that those found having a hand in the murder of Chasowa “will face full force of the law”.
