Malawi Catering Services employees at Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe on Thursday gave their bosses a 24 hour ultimatum to recalculate their increments or else will go on strike.

On Thursday morning the workers briefly went on a strike demanding an explanation from their bosses on formulae they used to give them their increments.

Speaking to ZBS some striking workers at the company which is a subsidiary of and Airport Development Limited (ADL) said they have been asking for an increment of 30 percent since July this year.

However, the company on Wednesday adjusted their salaries upwards with an average of 16 percent but the employees refused turned down the offer citing anomalies.

According to the workers, those who receive K100, 000 above were given 14 percent hike while the lowest paid got 30 percent.

The employees also complained that their colleagues at Airport Development Limited are being paid well.

But the company’s deputy catering manager Dorothy Kamanga refused to comment on the matter, saying she was not the right person to comment on the matter.

There was also no immediate comment from top officials of the company.
