Weightlifting and Bodybuilding Association of Malawi will hold a national competition on December 8 at the Steers/Debonairs Grounds in Blantyre.

The weightlifting and bodybuilding competition, which has been dubbed ‘Mr Muscle Malawi’, will draw participants from across the country that will compete to find who is the strongest and muscular man in the country.

Last year’s winner Henry Master would also be looking forward to defending his title.

General Secretary of the association, Harold Mwayang’ana, said the competition would be entertaining because there would be tough competition among the heavily-built men.

“We encourage weightlifters and bodybuilders to register and participate because it is going to be an exciting and tough competition. We encourage them to train harder if they want to make it,” he said.

Winners in different categories will receive medals and prize money.

So far, the association has managed to raise funds from some companies and well wishers.

Simon Salambula of Everest Trucking has donated K120,000 to the association. Mr. Zubair, a well wisher, has also donated K100,000.

The association is still calling for financial assistance from well wishers and the corporate world so that all the programmes go as planned.

“More companies should assist us. They can sponsor us not only through money, but can provide us with food, water or any other service,” Mwayang’ana explained.

National deputy weightlifting and bodybuilding coach Arox Kamngona said the association was trying hard to find transportation so that they can get some weights which have been stuck in Kenya for some months.

“Currently we are facing a problem of weights. We have weights for a few categories. Nevertheless we are optimistic that we will get the weights in good time to use at the competition,” Kamngona said.

Those who want to participate should register by December 5.

Blantyre-based weightlifters and bodybuilders should register through Kamngona on 0991416222.

Those from Lilongwe and Mzuzu should contact the national coach Chimwemwe Bakali on 0995470960.
