Former leader of United Democratic Front in Parliament and Mangochi North law maker, Ibrahim Matola has finally joined the ruling People’s Party.

Matola, appointed Deputy Minister of Environment and Climate Management in the UDF/PP make shift government of national unity, announced his defection Sunday during a PP political rally in Mangochi.

“Pressure has been coming from my constituents that I should resign from UDF and time has finally come now for me to join the People’s Party,” he said.

When asked whether he wants to safeguard his ministerial post hence his move, Matola said “I got the cabinet position when I was member of the UDF and I have been UDF all along.”

“Even if section 65 comes tomorrow am not worried because this is what my people, the people who voted me want from me,” he said.

The writing was already on the wall that Matola would quit UDF following statement that he would remain in cabinet after UDF President Atupele Muluzi quit from cabinet.
