The other day PP supporters made the most noise about Mrs Joyce Banda meeting Hilary Clinton, Tony Blair, Christine Largade as being symbolic of the greatness of Banda’s presidency.
Now what do they make of the story below where an opposition leader is invited by the President of the United States of America, Barack Obama, whose invitation President Banda only dreams about?
Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) acting president Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika is expected to leave on Thursday December 20 for a number of high profile engagements both in the United States of America (USA) and the United Kingdom (UK).
In the first leg of the tour, Mutharika is honouring American President Barack Obama’s invitation, while in the UK he is expected to meet that country’s high profile government officials.
Mutharika, who is tipped to win the 2014 presidential polls, if the recent Nation newspaper survey is anything to go by, will also meet a number of European head of governments.
Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika is seeing his 2014 Presidential bid boosted following the re-election of his long time buddy Obama, in last month’s United States of America elections.
As if that is not enough, the law professor’s long time friend John Kerry is being tipped to replace Hillary Clinton as secretary of the state. The two met at Yale in 1966 where they were both studying law and have been friends since then.
Mutharika’s personal relationship with Obama is dating back to 2004 when Obama was campaigning for a senator’s position in Chicago’s South side where the younger Mutharika has one of the biggest law firms with more than 200 black and white lawyers. The law film is currently being managed by Peter Mutharika’s daughter, Moyenda Mutharika Knaap.
Mutharika and Kerry became best friends during their university days at Yale Law School where they were actively involved in the Boby Kennedy’s campaign.
During Clinton’s 4-hour visit to Malawi few months ago, Mutharika was the only private person who met the American delegation.
