The much touted and anticipated January 17 nationwide demonstrations organized by Consumer Association of Malawi (Cama) executive director John Kapito have been dealt with a great blow following the resignation of the demonstrations’ organising chairperson for the south Maxcitings Mdoka who has opted for dialogue.

But, Kapito insists they are still marching on January 17.

Despite calls from various stakeholders to call off anti-government demonstrations, Kapito has this morning, announced that the protest is still on.

He disclosed this during a press briefing currently underway at Cama offices in Limbe.

He cited lack of commitment by government to address the seven concerns raised in their petition as reason enough to uphold the protests.

The move comes hot on the heels of reports that government officials met some of the organisers in Lilongwe prior to the announcement made at an impromptu press briefing at Capital City Motel.
