African Union Chairperson and Benin President Dr Thomas Boni Yayi, arrived in Malawi Tuesday for an official visit and returned the same day.

The reasons for his visit ware not clear but he met President Joyce Banda at her Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe.

Meanwhile, Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki arrives into the Southern African country Wednesday for a three day visit.

The visit would help cement Malawi’s bilateral relations with Kenya amid plans to re-open embassies in the two countries.

State House Press Secretary Mr Steve Nhlane was quoted last week by the online press that “the visit will help strengthen the trade relation between the two countries”

Arrival of the two African heads of state into the country follows a visit by top global leaders including IMF Chief Miss Christine Lagarde, wife to global business icon Bill Gates, Melinda, and a high level delegation of the global leader’s forum among others.

Nigerian leader Goodluck Jonathan was the first African to visit Malawi since President Banda assumed office in April 2012.
