The mother college of the University of Malawi, Chancellor College, will soon roll out a radio and television station, senior administration officials have confirmed.

According to the Senior Assistant Registrar, Mr. Chizimba, the radio will start operating earlier that the Television.

“Yes, I can confirm, we have bought radio and television equipment with help from LEAD and very soon the radio will be going on air,” Chizimba explained.

Asked who the owner of the two stations between Chanco and LEAD will be, he was very quick to point out that LEAD have just helped with the finances because they would like their climate change awareness campaign to have a new platform of approach to their audience, otherwise the radio and TV will belong to Chanco.

Copies of radio and TV licenses from MACRA indicate that the two indeed belong to Chanco.

Mr. Chizimba also revealed that the two media stations will be specifically run by the Language and Communication Skills Department current headed by Mrs. Rachael Chimbwete Phiri.

“A specific purpose for the radio is to allow our students who are studying media to train before they graduate. The first priority in this case are Bachelor of Arts in Culture and Communication Studies (BACOM) students and partly Media for Development (MFD) students,” said the Assistant Registrar.
