Mercy Kumwenda is not a lesbian, but she was paid a sum of K200, 000 to make the claims with the aim of her organisation, Centre for the Development of People(Cedep), twisting that arm of government to add pace to the processes of having laws allowing homosexuality in Malawi introduced in Parliament and passed.
Desperate that his financiers might feel he is not doing his work and that the issue of same sex is negligible to just be ignored, Gift Trapence, the boss of Kumwenda, decided to stage the hoax through money vulnerable Kumwenda.
