Malawi Fashion Week (WFW), to be hosted by Elegant Resources in partnership with African Dzuwa, has registered more models than designers.

The Malawi Fashion Week opened up registration for both models and designers and so far it has registered 24 models and nine designers.

In a press release, the organisers said despite having more models compared with designers, they are satisfied with the response and called on all those interested to be part of this red carpet event which will run for a week.

The organisers said among the models that have registered, 17 are Malawians with seven coming from other countries namely Botswana, Mozambique, South Africa and Zambia.

The statement also indicates that of the nine designers, seven are locals while one is from the United Kingdom with another one from South Africa.

Malawi will this year experience the richness of fashion as apart from the Malawi Fashion Week, Fashion Edition Malawi (Fame) is also coming up with a fashion week having graduated from their fame event.

Designers, models and fashion pundits have welcomed the two events saying this shows that the fashion industry is growing and that models and designers will be given platforms to showcase their skills and products.

However, some people have cautioned the two event organisers to tread carefully plan well and not hold the events out of competition but they should aim at growing the fashion industry.

Malawi Fashion Week have announced that their inaugural event is slated for May 30 to June 3 and that it will take place at Umodzi Park, located at the Presidents Hotel Arena in the Capital City, Lilongwe.

The four-day event is expected to be an outdoor event.
