President Joyce Banda of Malawi has disclosed that the Brazilian government has agreed to open diplomatic ties with her government.
Speaking at a press conference in Blantyre on arrival from a Africa—South America Summit in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, the Malawi leader said she discussed with her Brazil counterpart on the matter.
According to the Malawi leader, Brazil is ready to open its first ever Embassy in Lilongwe in six months’ time.
The two leaders discussed the matter at the Summit which was meant to among other things, discuss on the cooperation between African and South American countries in the fields of infrastructure, energy, agriculture and sustainable development.
President Dr. Banda ascended to power last April after the death of professor Bingu wa Mutharika.
