About 30 households in the area of chief Simnlemba in Kasungu, Central Malawi are at risk of hunger after a hail storm destroyed their crops.

Group village headman Chabwera of the area says among the crops damaged are tobacco, maize and legumes.

District agricultural development officer, Mr Jackson Mkombezi told the media his office is yet to get a report on the issue.

Meanwhile some farmers in Dowa have been dealt a serious blow after lightening struck 16 heads of cattle at the weekend.

Dowa police spokesperson says lightening struck cattle belonging to twelve farmers while grazing at Kongwe forest.
