Nike representatives flew in to London to talk about the renewal of their shirt sponsorship agreement with Manchester United yesterday. But top of the agenda was talks about how they could help the club get Cristiano Ronaldo.

An Old Trafford return could cost United around £65mil. The red devils are currently the biggest football club to wear their logo and Nike are so keen to bring back Ronaldo to Old Trafford in order to boost their brand and market in world football.

Nike also currently sponsor Ronaldo in terms of boots and sportswear but are frustrated that he runs out in an Adidas shirt with Real Madrid week in week out. Their current 13-year shirt deal with United is worth £303m and expires in 2015 and there has been various reports that suggests United could double or triple the sponsorship amount in the new deal.

A deal for the Portuguese could happen in summer as Nike are willing to renew their new sponsorship deal early so United will have the cash to sign their former star. The signing of Ronaldo could well increase United’s future sponsorship deals with other companies.
