Malawi pump fuel prices went up silently from Tuesday morning, Face of Malawi has learnt.

Petrol is now selling at K714.90 from K704.30 while diesel is now at K693.80 from K683.60.

There was no immediate comment from Energy authorities on the latest increase.

But the Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) effected another increase last month following the Kwacha depreciation and the Automatic fuel price mechanism (APM) system, which the Joyce Banda administration introduced mid last year.

The MERA special committee, which meets every first Tuesday of the month on the fuel prices recommendations, met last week Tuesday as usual.

However, MERA has up to now not communicated formally as to whether fuel prices have been adjusted.

Recently, the Kwacha depreciated further against the dollar to trade at K395 per $1.
