Late President Mutharika’s Guard Commander Duncan Mwapasa, arrested recently together with treason suspects has been interdicted on half pay.

Mwapasa was currently Officer in Charge for Rumphi police where he was posted soon after President Bingu wa Mutharika’s death in April 2012.

He was recently arrested together with treason suspects but he was released on police bail.

A letter signed by Deputy Inspector General of Police Mrs. Doreen Kapanga says the interdiction is with effect from March 11, 2013.

“The decision has been arrived at pending results of a criminal allegation of ‘Soliciting Public Officers to carry out their Duties Contrary to section 125 of the penal code’ which you are answering,” reads the letter in part.

Deputy Police National Spokesperson Mr. Kelvin Maigwa said he was not aware of the issue.

We could not get hold Mwapasa but our source at Rumphi police confirmed that he was packing this morning ready to leave Rumphi.
