My city was under siege over the weekend with the weekend with the visit of those Nigerian twins whose music is on every pub and club’s playlist around here. Friday was when we all expected the action to unfold after seeing pictures of Peter and Paul aka PSquare disembarking the plane at Kamuzu International airport a day before. The hype was quite significant around Lilongwe, even in my high density area of Ntandire I could hear a number of people talking about the show though it was a bit on the higher side of a budget for people like me on the MK10, 000 ticket for the average citizen, it wasn’t that much out of reach if you really wanted to go, lets be honest. Now back to the what I was elaborating earlier…….Friday came and went only to hear from the organizers of the event that the show has been shifted to the next day, Saturday from 1PM local time apparently because the equipment had not yet been cleared at the boarder. I was rather disappointed because by Friday 4PM I managed to get hold of a ticket (thanks to www.malawi-music.com) and was apparently in the “Alingo Dancing” mood only to hear that I had to save that mood for the next day, never the less we waited for Saturday’s sunrise and started counting down hours to 1PM now to hear that the show will only start at 5PM??? Now considering the price tag of the ticket I wasn’t in a position to go all “Ntandire” on them for all these inconveniences so myself and the rest of the people played it cool and waited for our MK10,000’s (MK15,000’s and MK25,000’s) to be activated with some live performances. Regardless of the extensive cue from vehicles and people I was inside at the event by 5:15PM, I saw the event’s official DJ “F1” Kenny Klips up and about on the stage but we weren’t paying much attention to him because that MK10,000 ticket had PSquare written all over it and that’s what we all were waiting for.

No serious action was happening on stage till around past 6PM when the female singing duo of Fortress performed their recent hit “Rikita” and Sally Nyundo gave us a cool Bob Marley copyright cover then the rains messed it up for everyone, these rains had us drenched to the drawers for a good three hours and put the event on hold forcing everyone to seek shelter. After those three hours of downpour there was still no sign of activity on the stage with no music and no sign of the MK10, 000 ticket twins (PSquare) until around 11PM when they arrived at the event to shake things up and give us our MK10, 000 worth of entertainment.

Regardless of the wet turf people went crazy (excluding me) when the twins jumped on stage and they kept the crowd on the tips of their toes from start to finish delivering an almost 3 hour performance of every track of theirs you can actually remember. They were backed by a band (and a PA track in the mix) which made all of their hits we know sound a bit different but more entertaining and to be honest though I’m not a PSquare fan I was totally entertained and my sponsor’s sponsored ticket was worth the extra day wait (though the event itself had a couple of hiccups). Imagine I was singing Alingo all the way back to Ntandire after the show, that’s how good PSqaure’s performance was.
