The governments of Malawi and Mozambique say the feasibility study being carried out will determine the viability of the Shire Zambezi Water way project.
The African development Bank-ADB mandated the regional grouping Southern African Development Community-SADC to do a comprehensive feasibility study on the water way.
The Zambezi Waterway will help Malawi to have access to the Ocean.
The project faced a lot of challenges after some disagreements emerged between Malawi and Mozambique.
Principal Secretary in the ministry of transport and public works Moffat Chitimbe told the media that remarkable progress has been made so far.
“Consultants and the project coordinator to do the study have so far been identified by the public secretariat that is coordinating the recruitment of the personel” he said.
Mozambican Minister of transport and Communication Paulo Zucula has also confirmed that a consultant to undertake the study has been identified and the three countries have already agreed on this.
Mozambique and Malawi have at the moment strengthened their relationship in different areas.
