The National Initiative for Civic Education-Trust has received at least 7.5 million Euros from the European Union towards the dissemination of information about the 2014 tripartite elections to the masses.

The European Union’s leader of delegation to Malawi Alexander Baum described the forthcoming tripartite elections as complex hence need for maximum attention.

Baum then advised stakeholders in the electoral process to be committed towards preparations for next year’s general elections.

He was speaking in Blantyre, when he presided over the official opening of a three day first National training and planning workshop by the National Initiative for Civic Education-Trust.

This is first tick of the trust, as its operations were suspended for almost twenty months, following the withholding of funds by the donors, on grounds of irregularities in the appointment of its board by the previous regime.

Baum said since the funds have been released, the onus is on the trust to ensure that enough information about the elections is being disseminated to the masses.
