Islamic Information Bureau has expressed concern over reports that more Muslim girls are on top of the list of drop outs.
Speaking to the media, Islamic Information Bureau, national Coordinator Sheikh Dinala Chabulika said the blame is on parents who he said are not taking the responsibility of their daughter’s future.
Media reports indicate that the dropouts are due to early marriages. Sheikh Chabulika said however, that poverty may be fueling the dropouts of Muslim girls in the country.
He further said civic education is needed for Muslim parents to appreciate the importance of educating girls.
Sheikh Chabulika said Muslim girls should not be carried away with boys and men who travel to South Africa saying they have to work for their own future.
