Professor Peter Mutharika has won the presidential seat for the opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) during the party’s convention held at the Blantyre’s Comesa hall from 17 to 19 April. Mutharika who has since been the acting DPP president following the death of his brother Bingu, beat his position rival Chimunthu Banda- speaker of the National Assembly by 1,266 against 73.
