Opposition United Democratic Front (UDF) president Atupele Muluzi says he is not interested to be the Chancellor of the University of Malawi.
Muluzi said this during a rally he addressed at Mponda ground in Zomba to wind up his whistle stop tour of Chiradzulu and Zomba districts.
He said if delegates at the coming first ever national policy conference proposes that a president should not be chancellor of the University of Malawi he will honour their demands.
Speaking to thousands of UDF supporters who stood against ruling People’s Party’s earlier fights in the day, Atupele Muluzi said it is time to accord the country’s universities the respect and dignity they deserve by having an independent person as Chancellor of the University of Malawi.
He said for sometime university education has been meddled by politicians with their desire to win practice politics as these public universities.

In this regard Atupele Muluzi said once delegates at the conference speaks against the idea of him being chancellor if ushered to power in 2014 elections he will respect the party’s stand.
