Anthony Livuza, an award winning journalist and one of the fastest rising civil servants, died on Sunday at Mwaiwathu Hospital in Blantyre, reportedly from high blood pressure complications, a colleague from the Ministry of Information told the media.
Simply called ‘Tony’ among his peers, he started out as reporter with the Malawi News Agency and later edited the defunct government magazine ‘This is Malawi.’
He went to Harare Polytechnic to study journalism and he did his masters with a British college. He rose to become Chief Information Officer and later Principal Secretary of the Ministry of Information, becoming the youngest professional to hold this portfolio during the Bakili Muluzi era.
He was PS for the ministries of Education, Foreign Affairs and Energy before he moved back to Information from where he held the same position.
Livuza hailed from Mulanje. He was in his 40s.
