The much awaited convention for the opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) which was slated to take place this weekend at Bingu International conference centre in Malawi’s capital Lilongwe has been postponed to an indefinite date.

Breaking the news, the chairperson of the convention, Joseph Njovuyalema in an interview with Zodiak radio disclosed that this has been the case due to accommodation and funds problems. Njovuyalema said that the decision was arrived at during the meeting the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party had on Thursday.

“It is true that we have postponed the convention because accommodation was kind of problematic because we could not manage to accommodate 700 delegates who were supposed to attend to the same.

“Another problem is money, whereby the convention would need about MK 35 million but so far only K20 million is what we managed to raise,” said Njovuyalema.
