Malawi, through the Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA), has expressed its commitment to involving girls in the ICT sector.

In an event at the St. Mary’s Girls Secondary School in Zomba district to mark world Girls in ICT Day, MACRA’s Board Chairlady, Martha Kwataine, said, MACRA would work hand in hand with various stakeholders to ensure that young girls are given more opportunities to take up careers in the ICT profession.

Among the initiatives, MACRA will award scholarships to students who perform  well in Sciences and Mathematical  subjects at the Junior Secondary School level, and MACRA will donate ICT equipment to selected secondary schools so that girls are exposed to ICT  at an early stage. MACRA will also facilitate ICT training workshops aimed at training young girls and women in school and in the community.
