In its quest to promote access to quality education for girls, government is constructing girls’ hostels in 18 Community Day Secondary Schools ( CDSS) across the country.
So far eight hostels have been completed while the other 10 are in final stages.
Minister of Education, Science and Technology Honorable Eunice Kazembe said the initiative is an attempt to ensure the girl child stays in school.
“I am deeply concerned with poor performance of girls especially at MSCE in the past three years. We have been told that long distance is the problem as others even drop out so we hope the hostels will motivate many,” said Kazembe.
Apart from construction of hostels, government says has also lined up a number of initiatives to improve education for the girl child.
