Nation Publications Limited (NPL), publisher of The Nation, Nation on Sunday and Weekend Nation, on Saturday was awarded Media House of the Year Award (Print) by the Media Institute for Southern Africa-Malawi beating leading rival Blantyre Newspapers Limited (BNL).

NPL also won all but one in individual categories with, among others, Deogratius Mmana scooping the investigative journalist of the year award, Peter Kanjere (Sports), Emmanuel Muwamba (Photojournalism) and hitman Ephraim Munthali, Nation on Sunday editor, of the now popular Cut the Chaff getting the best columnist of the year award.

Isaac Masingati, from BNL, is the only journalist who made his media house proud. He got away with the education journalist of the year (print) award.

Malawi’s Zodiak Broadcasting Station triumphed in the electronic category as her journalists scooped all the awards in the section.

ZBS’ Shakira Chimbadza and Tereza Ndanga were awarded as overall winners for their feature that took head-on the hot-button issue of Chamba (Indian Hemp) trafficking that’s currently quite rampant in the country.

However, ZBS failed to scoop the Best Electronic Media House of the Year Award this year as it didn’t meet the criteria that was set up, according to the judges.
