A 42 year old traditional healer from Malawi’s district of Rumphi on May 1st this year added one more woman to his long list of wives, bringing the total to 18.

The herbalist, Mzimu Mbale, confirmed the development an exclusive interview.

“I am the only child from my father,” he said, “and so he instructed me to have a very big family that can make a village.”

All the 18 have a house each, built for them by Mbale, who has a total of 22 children so far.

According to Mbale, his church known as National Church officiated each of these weddings and that as far as he is concerned, they are holy matrimonial institutions.

The traditional healer added that before he marries each woman, he has her tested for HIV at the hospital, parrying away fears that he is risking his life and that of others in wake of the HIV and AIDS scourge.

His wives say they are happy.

His third wife, Dyless Msimuko, expressed that she is contented with her marriage with Mbale, and that she experiences “no problems with her marriage.”

Another wife, Wezzie Mbeye shared similar sentiments to Msimuko’s, saying they are a happy household.

Mbale and his extended family live in Tereka Village Traditional Authority Chikulamayembe in Rumphi.

Mbale, who says he heals all kinds of ailments, confessed that he dropped out of school while in standard five, after beating a teacher.
