BIG Bullets finally breathed a sigh of relief after Carlsberg Malawi gave the club K5 million after emerging victorious in the ‘Win for your club promotion’.

Carlsberg Malawi Senior Brands Manager alcoholic Twikale Chirwa presented a cheque to Bullets General Secretary Higger Mkandawire on Wednesday.

Mkandawire said the money would help them settle outstanding arrears they owed the players.

“The players have been looking for their dues for the past weeks. We were desperate because we had no where to source funding but this amount will us help settle the arrears,” he said.

Mkandawire thanked the fans for supporting the team during the promotion and Carlsberg for running the initiative.
“We have proved that we have a large fan base and we applaud the supporters that entered the competition. Without them we could not have received this amount. Besides that we have to thank Carlsberg Malawi for running the promotion which was open to all Super League teams,” Mkandawire said.

Chirwa said the competition was a success as it registered over 100,000 entries.

“We are part of the game and as a good corporate citizen we feel duty bound to complement government efforts in developing football. As Carlsberg we intend to make a difference in the society we operate,” he said.

During the promotion, Bullets amassed over 40,000 entries with their rivals Mighty Wanderers finishing as runners-up after collecting about 20,000 entries. Silver had around 5,000 entries on third while Mponela United had about 3,000 entries on fourth. Moyale finished fifth with 2,000 entries. – By Mphatso Malidadi
