President Joyce Banda on Tuesday belittled the ‘agenda for change’ being championed by United Democratic Front (UDF) leader Atupele Muluzi, without realising that her microphones were still on.

At the end of her speech when she laid a foundation stone for the construction of a ‘dream town’ at Lilongwe’s Area 49, President Banda showcased members of her cabinet who are below the age of 40.

She boasted that she is having a most youthful cabinet ever assembled in Malawi’s history.

But when she resumed her seat, President Banda was picked by the unswitched-off microphone saying ‘kumangoti agenda for change, agenda for change, mnyamata uliwekha, kumbuyo kwako kuli nkhalamba zokha-zokha’.

And members of her cabinet bursted into incessant laughter, before the microphones were switched-off.

Among the youthful cabinet members president Banda showcased were Industry and Trade minister Sosten Gwengwe and his Deputy Godfrey Kamanya, Mining Minister John Bande, Information Minister Moses Kunkuyu, Energy Minister Ibrahim Matola Economic Planning and Development Ralph Jooma, Tourism and Culture Minister Rachel Zulu and Abel Kayembe, who is the Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister. – Malawi Voice
