Secondary school students in Malawi will from September, next year, be mandated to take science subjects as compulsory subjects.

This, according to the authorities, is a deliberate move to ensure that the education sector nurtures science and technology, to have a technologically driven nation.

There have been concerns from education rights campaigners that the government was not putting much effort on science and technology in the country’s education system.

Speaking at the end of the national schools science fair at Kamuzu Academy in Kasungu, the director of secondary and distance learning Chikondano Mussa believes compulsory science subjects will make a difference. – Capital radio malawi
