Zimbabwe has for the third consecutive time ranked first and is the only African country with a literacy rate of over 90 percent. South Africa is ranked third with 86.40 percent and Kenya fourth with 85.10 percent.
According to the list, Malawi’s literacy rate stands at 62.70 percent while Zambia ranks 13th with a literacy rate of 80.60 percent. Tanzania ranked 19 at 69.40 percent , Nigeria 21 at 68 percent and Egypt at 16 with a literacy rate of 71.40 percent among others.
Those ranking lower than Malawi in literacy rates include Ghana, Sudan, Mozambique, Ethiopia, Sierra Leone, Chad, Liberia and Cote d’Ivoire.
